The events of 1917 were a political process that culminated with the end of the Imperial system in Russia. The revolution was divided into two phases. First, the February revolution, in which Emperor Nicholas II was overthrown. Second, a revolution of a communist type in which the Soviets (controlled mainly by the Bolshevik party) took the power.
The February Revolution, known in Soviet historiography as the Burgess Democratic Revolution, was the first of two revolutions that took place in Russia in 1917.
